Welcome to this issue of DSO. In it, thanks to Wolfgang and Jenni, we have hopefully the start of a new feature series of Objects of the Season, one for the southern hemisphere and one for the northern. We would like people to contribute observations of the selected objects (NGC 7027 and NGC 5128) to Wolfgang and Jenni and they can compile a report and in the next issue then we can have two more. This worked well with the French deep sky magazine Ciel Extreme as an idea and we hope that you will be interested with this one as well. Any form of observation, be it visual description, drawing, photographic or CCD is welcome.
On a further couple of points in that area, after this edition of the magazine, we are starting to run a bit low on material so if you can all get your keyboards out and start writing that would be good. The other request I would have is that so far the deep sky news section has been compiled by me. If you know of, or think of, something that is of interest to the deep sky community then please drop me a line and I can add it to the section. It is a bit shorted than normal this time due to space considerations but I would like to expand it away from the historical stuff.
The Society hopes to have a presence at a number of the UK astronomy meetings this summer/autumn and obviously we would like to meet anyone to discuss society matters there.
We are also struggling to find a location for the AGM this year. The idea was to hold it on October the 8th somewhere in Oxfordshire (see footnote) area but we have not yet found a suitable venue. Hopefully we can find one soon and if successful that information may have to be given on the website and under a separate cover.
Note. Webb Society 2005 AGM - 8th Oct, William Penney Theatre, Aldermaston. Details of how to get there and speakers TBA.
