Basic Data: NGC 7293 "The Helix Nebula", RA 22 29.6, Dec –20 50, Mag: 7.3v, Size: 16.0’, Central Star: 13.5 mag

The nebula lies between 450 - 600 LY away, has a diameter of about 2.5 LY across, and is a Sun like star that is dying. The central Stellar core is destined to become a white dwarf. And why does it appear round in shape? That is because we are looking at one end of the nebula. It is actually a trillion - mile - long tunnel of glowing gases.

The Helix Nebula is a favourite observing target for many observers. It offers a great view being bright, large, and much enhanced with a filter. Images show incredible detail.
